“Internship programs differ dramatically among universities, and even within universities,” says Marianne E. Green, assistant director of experiential programs at the University of Delaware (UD). “Some schools have a centralized internship, service learning, or experiential learning office. Within this centralized silo, it is possible to build a uniform internship program, monitor its effectiveness, and evaluate it.” Other colleges and universities, such as UD, have decentralized internship programs. This means that various departments, such as criminal justice, sociology, political science, and psychology, have their own internship programs.
