Miami
University’s career services office developed a tool that blends critical
career and job-search information with cuttingedge technology.
The office’s “CareerChat Podcast Project” allows busy students at the Ohio school to download free career-related podcasts to their MP3 players to take on the go. Students can also download episodes to any computer. The career services office works to make the information as valuable and entertaining as possible, while keeping each episode to about 15 minutes.
“CareerChat” follows an interview format. Guests are often university alumni who can speak about a specific topic or industry. To keep students’ interest, content is fresh, not a repackaged version of information presented in the office’s workshops. In fact, the topics of podcasts often coincide with and complement the topics of upcoming workshops.
