University of Colorado at Boulder— Suit Yourself
The
career services office at the University of Colorado at Boulder developed
a program to provide students with low-cost, high-quality attire for interviewing.
In preparation for the annual event—“Suit Yourself”—staff members of the career services office solicit donations of gently worn business attire from the Boulder/Denver community. A local drycleaner cleans the donated items.
The career services office then holds a sale one week before the school’s largest career fair for students to buy the donated items at bargain prices. For example, a suit costs $15. Proceeds from the sale benefit the school’s Multicultural Engineering Program and Multicultural Business Student Association. In 2005, however, the event’s planning committee agreed to donate the more than $3,800 raised to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund.
