Employer of the Year
Gary S. Hunt
Gary
S. Hunt has held various titles as a human resources professional for more
than 20 years.
One name by which he is known—although it does not appear on his resume—is “The Wizard,” for his “uncanny ability,” as one colleague calls it “to find the right people for the right job in record time.”
Hunt’s achievements in the field are widely recognized by his peers in career services and college relations. Some single out his attributes as a mentor:
“Whenever I am faced with a difficult staffing issue, I ask myself, “What would Gary do?’”
Others point to his charismatic personality:
“I can’t think of a city or state where Gary doesn’t know someone.”
Yet others cite his dedication:
“Despite major corporate responsibilities and a hectic travel schedule, Gary plays an active role in several professional associations.”
For his advocacy of college relations and recruiting functions, mentorship and support of his peers, and leadership and service to the national and regional associations, Hunt has merited another title—Employer of the Year—conferred by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Hunt’s recognition by NACE mirrors an honor accorded him in 1999 as the Rocky Mountain Association of Colleges and Employers (RMACE) Employer of the Year.
Hunt is vice president of human resources for Operations Management International, Inc. (OMI), an international environmental firm headquartered in Englewood, Colorado. At OMI, Hunt directs the human resources department, with oversight for staff training, career development and college relations programs, and HR program development. He also directs the management information systems and administration group.
Before joining OMI, Hunt served as director of human resources at Morrison Knudsen Corporation in Boise, Idaho. In that capacity, he was responsible for strategic planning, staffing, employee relations, training and development, compensation, and affirmative action. He previously held the positions of director of staffing and university relations at Morrison Knudson, senior employment representative at Bechtel, and personnel representative at CDI Corporation, all in Boise.
Hunt currently serves on career services advisory boards for Boise State University and Montana State University. He also has served on the NACE Board of Governors and several of its committees and is a past president and committee member of RMACE.
