Liberal arts grads pursue successful careers in a wide variety of fields.  But when the subject of a graduate’s degree is unrelated to her career interest—or when she has no idea what she wants to pursue—finding a path to success is more difficult. 

Using stories from their book, Smart Moves for Liberal Arts Grads:  Finding a Path to Your Perfect Career, as illustrations, Sheila Curran and Suzanne Greenwald outline effective career skill-sets and strategies for this population, and highlight what students need to do to be competitive in a tough job market.

The Presenters

Sheila Curran and Suzanne Greenwald are coauthors of Smart Moves for Liberal Arts Grads:  Finding a Path to Your Perfect Career (published in May, 2006 by Ten Speed Press.)

Sheila Curran, president of Curran Career Consulting, works with colleges and employers to promote the career success of college graduates. For more than a decade, she led the careers offices at Duke University and Brown University. Prior to that, Sheila held human resources positions at Brown, Gallaudet University, and the University of Michigan. Curran’s articles on careers have been published nationally and internationally, including a career column, “Curran on Careers” for Business Week magazine.  Curran has degrees in Russian, Persian, and education, and she holds an SPHR.

Suzanne Greenwald is senior member adviser for the education consulting firm Eduventures. She holds a Ph.D. in education policy from the University of Chicago, a master’s degree from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree in English and American literature from Brown University. Greenwald is an expert on school-to-work issues, work-related learning, and school-business partnerships and has served as an educational adviser to the Cambridge-MIT Institute.

What Is a “Virtual Seminar”?

To attend the audio/web conference, you will need a telephone; a phone with a speaker feature will enable other staff members to hear the presentation. You also will need Internet access and a browser to view the PowerPoint presentation that accompanies the audio program.
