Shelly Cryer, author of The Nonprofit Career Guide: How to Land a Job That Makes a Difference, offers a birds-eye view of jobs in the nonprofit sector in 2009 and the career paths within it. Cryer will focus on opportunities and obstacles to helping interested students land meaningful nonprofit sector jobs and will provide concrete strategies for successful nonprofit sector career counseling and advice on the best resources.
During this seminar, you’ll discover and explore:
- the size and scope of the nonprofit sector, the key subsectors within it, and range of job functions,
- key barriers to landing a nonprofit job, and strategies for overcoming those barriers,
- job search strategies specific to the nonprofit sector,
- the best resources for nonprofit sector job preparation and job hunting, and
- tips for building connections to a campus’ local nonprofits, as well as national nonprofits.

The Presenters
Shelly Cryer, author of The Nonprofit Career Guide: How to Land a Job That Makes a Difference (Fieldstone, 2008), is a consultant to nonprofits and founder of American Humanics’ Initiative for Nonprofit Sector Careers. The Initiative works to attract, retain, and develop skilled, committed, and diverse nonprofit sector leadership. The project’s initial research was conducted at NYU/Wagner, and Shelly’s report Recruiting & Retaining the Next Generation of Nonprofit Sector Leadership is available online.

What Is a Virtual Seminar?
You and your staff can participate in a virtual seminar without leaving your officesand all for one low tuition fee. Participants receive a personal identification number (PIN) to connect by phone to the audio portion of the program, and a link to view the presentation and interact with the presenter online.
What you will need:
To attend the audio/web conference, you will need a telephone; a phone with a speaker feature will enable other staff members to hear the presentation. You also will need Internet access and a browser to view the PowerPoint presentation that accompanies the audio program.

Sign up today. The registration fee for the session is $119 for NACE members, $199 for nonmembers (prepayment required). To register after October 31, 2008 you must use the fax/mail-in form. Registration for the web seminar closes 10 a.m. (ET) the day of the seminar. At that time, you may purchase the archive.
(Fee includes one telephone connection, one Internet connection, one set of handout materials, and unlimited participant attendance at your site.)
*Important note regarding NBCC Credit: Only the named, registered attendee can be granted credit. In order to receive NBCC credit, you must register individually and your attendance must be VERIFIED before we can issue a certificate to you. Please contact Kim Jamison at kjamison@naceweb.org to request your recertification materials after October 23, 2008. Per NBCC rules, no credit is available for archived sessions.

Cancellations
Cancellations must be received in writing at least three business days before the session for credit to be issued. (Cancellations are subject to a $25 administration charge.)
