| Bleeds: |
Bleeds should extend beyond the magazine trim size at least 1/8", not exceeding 1/4". Bleeds are only available on full page ads. |
| Publisher’s Trim: | 1/8" from top, bottom, and outside. Text and other vital matter should be kept 1/2" from all edges. |
| Halftone Line Screen: | Recommended 133; maximum 150. |
Preferred Materials:
PDF or native PageMaker or QuarkXpress document.
Color proofs should accompany all 4/C ads.
Publisher will store materials for six months, then discard them unless
instructed otherwise.
PDF files:
To create the PDF file, use Acrobat distiller 3.0 or 4.0 (PDF documents
created with PDFwriter or Acrobat Distiller 5.0 cannot be processed at
NACE).
Fonts
- Use Type 1 Postscript fonts only. (Truetype, Multiple Master, Type
3, Compact, and other fonts cannot be processed at NACE.)
- Embed Type 1 Postscript fonts in your PDF.
Images
- Use high-resolution images only. Resolution should be 300 dpi.
- Images may be saved as TIFF or EPS. We cannot accept JPEG images.
- Embed high-resolution images in your PDF.
Color
- Color must be in CMYK format.
(Tip: Check your Quark or Pagemaker document to ensure that all color is in CMYK format before creating the PDF file.) - Black and white images should be saved as gray scale.
Size
- Your PDF file should show crop marks and bleeds (bleeds are at least
1/8" side to side and top to bottom; bleed should not exceed 1/4").
Bleeds are available on full page ads only.
Proof Required
For 4-color files: SWOP acceptable digital color proof generated from
the final file.
For black and white files: A laser proof generated from the final file.
For a native PageMaker or Quark document:
- PageMaker 6.5 should be used.
- Quark 4 should be used.
- PC or Mac format.
- Please send native file and all fonts (printer and screen) and artwork used in ad. (Artwork should be 300 dpi, TIFF or EPS format; saved as CMYK for 4-color and as gray scale for black and white images)
- Magazine size is 8 1/4" x 11". All bleeds should extend
at least 1/8", up to 1/4" beyond trim size.
Digital File Proof Required
For 4-color files: SWOP acceptable digital color proof generated from
the final file.
For black and white files: A laser proof generated from the final file.
Copy with layout acceptable, but all composition and mechanical charges incurred in creating the advertisement will be billed to the advertiser.
Printing: Sheet-fed offset.
Binding: Saddle-stitched.
