I hear this same complaint frequently from students following attendance at our career fairs so I was happy to see an article that addresses the organization's stance on this topic. One point I make to students is that the event is still an opportunity to make contact with an individual, learn more about the company and position(s), and obtain contact information whenever possible. In a preparatory workshop I address this new change and advise students to send a follow-up letter, once they've completed the appropriate application procedures, in order to touch base with the recruiter and reiterate interest in the position/company. It helps the student stand out as a serious applicant and takes care of any potential IT glitches! Crystal Goode, Career Counselor Valdosta State University
