Hiring for experiential education programs is on the rise, according to results of NACE’s 2012 Internship & Co-op Survey.

This year, intern hiring is expected to increase 8.5 percent from last year, while co-op hiring is expected to jump by 7.5 percent.

In addition, a greater percentage of internships will be paid. Overall, respondents report that an average of 99.6 percent of their internships are paid, an increase from an average of 97.1 percent of internships that were paid last year.

This year, only 4.2 percent of respondents reported that unpaid internships account for at least a portion of their hires. That’s down from 7.1 percent last year.

NACE’s 2012 Internship & Co-op Survey was conducted from November 11, 2011, to January 13, 2012. The survey was sent to 952 NACE employer members; 280 organizations, or 29.4 percent, took part. A report based on the survey will be available shortly. Participants will receive a complimentary copy.
