First Destination Surveys: NACE Releases Position Statement

Spotlight for Career Services Professionals
August 15, 2012

NACE has released “The Critical Importance of Institutional First Destination/Post Graduation Surveys,” detailing NACE’s position on first destination surveys.

Developed by the NACE Advocacy Advisory Committee and approved by the NACE Board of Directors at its July meeting, the position statement recognizes the importance of such surveys and addresses a concern among college career services professionals—a growing series of federal reporting requirements related to graduate employment, including the proposed White House College Scorecard.

“This gives the profession the opportunity to take the lead in developing processes and standards that will result in meaningful data and comparisons,” says Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director.

To that end, NACE President Andy Ceperley is appointing a task force to develop collection and reporting procedures and processes, and standards that provide for consistency in reporting.

Development of the processes and standards is not limited to the task force. All NACE members are asked to provide input into this critical issue. Members are encouraged to send their recommendations and concerns to advocacy@naceweb.org.
