Job Outlook: Employers Approach Hiring With Caution

Spotlight for Career Services Professionals, September 28, 2011
Spotlight for Recruiting Professionals, September 28, 2011

Employers are approaching hiring with caution, according to results of NACE's Job Outlook 2012 survey.

Overall, employers taking part in the survey plan to hire 9.5 percent more graduates from the Class of 2012 than they hired from the Class of 2011.

However, attrition appears to be driving that anticipated increase.  In general, respondents indicated that they are focused on replacement hires. Not surprisingly, they are most interested in hiring graduates in business, engineering, or tech-related disciplines.

The survey was conducted August 3 through September 23,  2011, among NACE employer members; 244, or 26.8 percent, took part. Details about the outlook for the Class of 2012 will be available through the Job Outlook 2012 report in October. The report will also include data about employer recruiting methods, skill preferences, and more.
