How to Turn a Good Intern into a Great Employee

Summary

How can employers develop and deliver professional development offerings to interns? How do you collect metrics that demonstrate that those sessions add value for both the intern and the company?

Staff from the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) construct professional development programming for interns by looking at their own work force development needs and connecting those with skills that would be most beneficial for interns. Learn how they have initiated these sessions, augmented and extended interns' knowledge base, and added value as a future hire. Attendees will discover how this programming has been implemented and established for a year-round, cross-country model that also enhances the company as a potential future workplace.

Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate what “professional development” means to your organization;
  • Measure the success of professional development events; and
  • Gather information to develop and deliver professional development sessions.
