    BETHLEHEM, PA—Employers expect to hire more new college graduates this year for their U.S. operations than they did last year, according to a new survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

    Overall, results of NACE’s Job Outlook 2014 Spring Update survey show employers plan to hire 8.6 percent more Class of 2014 graduates than they hired from the Class of 2013.

    That’s up some from earlier projections: In fall 2013, employers interested in new college graduates anticipated a 7.8 percent increase in hiring for their U.S. operations.

    More than half of hiring employers report interest in bachelor’s degree graduates in accounting and various business fields, engineering, and/or computer sciences. More than half also expect to hire master’s level candidates, including M.B.A.s, for their U.S. operations.

    Additional highlights from the survey include:

    • Overall, 48.4 percent of respondents say they are increasing their college hiring; less than 30 percent plan to cut back. In comparison, last year at this time, 49.2 percent reported plans to raise their college hire numbers, but approximately 36 percent said they would trim college hiring.
    • Nearly all responding employers continue to recruit and hire this spring; less than 10 percent say that they concluded their college hiring in fall 2013.
    • Nearly two-thirds say they are hiring for full-time and internship positions this spring.

    About the Job Outlook Survey: The Job Outlook survey is a forecast of hiring intentions of employers as they relate to new college graduates. Each year, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) surveys its employer members about their hiring plans and other employment-related issues in order to project the market for new college graduates for the current class and to assess a variety of conditions that may influence that market.

    The survey is conducted in two parts: fall and spring. This release is based on results of the spring survey, which was conducted February 11 – March 26, 2014. The survey was distributed to 1,015 employers holding NACE membership; 161, or 15.9 percent, responded.

    By region, 21.7 percent of respondents are from the Northeast, 28 percent are from the Southeast, 31.7 percent are from the Midwest, and 18.6 percent are from the West.
