Equal Opportunity, Unequal Outcomes: Exploring Gender Inequality in Post-College Career Outcomes
Description:
There has been much recent publicity around gender discrimination in the workplace. Despite legislation intended to level the playing field, such as Title IX and the Equal Pay Act, women still lag behind men in pay at a rate of approximately 80 percent, a statistic that has held for close to two decades. The pay gap is present for women immediately upon graduating from college, largely due to differential major sorting and occupational sorting. This panel will discuss the issues behind the gender pay gap and provide recommendations for career development practitioners and recruitment professionals to strive for more equitable outcomes.
