Campus To Careers: Building Employment Pipelines for College Students and Graduates with Disabilities and the Employers Who Seek to Hire Them
Description:
College graduates with a disability have a 60 percent unemployment rate, compared with 2.1 percent for other college graduates. At the same time, employers are learning that hiring from this large, untapped talent pool makes good business sense. However, disability programs still lag behind diversity initiatives for many corporations, and even when policies are created, they do not always result in effective practices. In order to make changes, organizations must first measure the current climate. NOD has created the Disability Employment Tracker, a confidential and free assessment for organizations to measure their disability hiring and inclusion strategy. This diagnostic survey provides benchmarks against employment best practices and regulations, as well as providing a year-over-year comparison. We developed the survey with cooperation from our corporate leaders, and it is updated yearly, based upon current business needs. Through lessons learned, successes and course corrections, we are learning the most important components and best practices necessary to replicate this pipeline throughout the country. At the conclusion of the pilot program, we will share a comprehensive report and a toolkit to assist both employers and universities in creating successful employment measures for college graduates with disabilities.
