Overcoming Obstacles: Preparing Grad Students for Work Outside the University
Description:
Engaging graduate students in career development can present a variety of obstacles for practitioners. Students have little time to devote to anything beyond their academic or assistantship requirements, they feel that university services are for undergraduate students, or they think they should be more prepared to navigate the job market than they are. This presentation will showcase how to integrate NACE competencies into programming aimed at providing career services to graduate students preparing to leave the academy for work in industry. Participants will leave with personalized action steps to help them engage graduate students at their university.
