Competency to Career: Preparing Students Through a NACE-Based Internship Program
Description:
This presentation will address how we have successfully integrated the NACE competencies into the CDCI program coursework, supervisor evaluations, and internship site cultivation. Further,we will also address the impact that the CDCI program is having on Binghamton students and how participation has led to more meaningful internship experiences for students. Through this research, we have collected quantitative and qualitative data on the experiences that students are having at their various internship sites. Additionally, this research shows the impact that participating in a CDCI course is having on students’ NACE career-readiness competencies development and improvement. Attendees will leave this presentation with practical strategies for implementing, adapting, and assessing similar internship programs on their home campus. Sample syllabus and example NACE-based assignments will be provided as tangible take-homes and a discussion on creating buy-in from, and educating, faculty, staff, and internship sites about the NACE career-readiness competencies will prepare attendees for continued conversation following the NACE19 conference.
