Are They Ready? Connecting Employers and Diverse Students Through Internships
Description:
With the changing demographics in Minnesota and the nation setting internship expectations between employers and students goes beyond technical expertise and aptitude. Employers express their eagerness to diversify their workforce but are they really equipped to create an successfully inclusive environment? How can students navigate an environment in transition? Hennepin Technical College will share lessons learned from planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes from 67 paid internships for students with unmet financial need. Addressing gaps in employer and student expectations relating to essential skills, cultural capital, and diversity/inclusion we will share our path to success along with supports, expectations and trainings.
