Spotlight for Career Services ProfessionalsFebruary 19, 2014
Education services employers were the top employer for Class of 2013 liberal arts graduates, according to NACE’s January 2014 Salary Survey—the final report on starting salaries for the college Class of 2013. These liberal arts majors primarily filled teaching positions—in institutions ranging from elementary to postsecondary schools—for their new employers.
Federal, state, and local government agencies also accounted for a large portion of the jobs secured by Class of 2013 liberal arts grads, hiring them for positions such as managers, bailiffs, and correctional and police officers.
Also among the top employers for 2013 liberal arts graduates were those in healthcare and social assistance (counselors, and human resources and social workers); professional, scientific, and technical services (market research analysts, marketing specialists, paralegals, and legal assistants); and information (artists, writers, authors, and editors).
As a group, liberal arts graduates received starting salaries that averaged $38,045.
Data for the January 2014 Salary Survey report were retrieved in November 2013. An executive summary of the January 2014 Salary Survey report is available at www.naceweb.org/salary-resources/salary-survey.aspx or through the MyNACE area of NACEWeb.
NACE’s first report on starting salaries for the college Class of 2014 will be published in April.
