On January 22, the Office of Management and Budget approved the voluntary self-identification form required by the final rule of Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which covers individuals with disabilities.
Under the final rule, employers must invite job applicants and employees to self-identify their disabilities on a standard “Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability” form prescribed by the agency.
The newly approved form differs from the initial draft because it asks employees and applicants for employment to identify if they have ever had a disability, and provides employees and applicants with the option of providing their names and the date that the form was signed.
The final rule becomes effective on March 24, 2014.
