Brian Guerrero , Chief of Staff to the Exec VP and Provost, The Ohio State University - Office of Academic Affairs
I am deeply honored to be considered for the position of president-elect. My values are the driving force behind and the manner in which I display enthusiasm for our profession’s future. Chief among them is our association’s commitment to racial justice and social equity. And while faced with considerable societal challenges, nothing provides me with more optimism than seeing the passion and dedication of our dynamic volunteers.
In 2015, I was proud to have been named Mentor of the Year, which illustrates my capacity to develop people and to exemplify deep care for their diverse experiences. I've also had the opportunity to demonstrate years of leadership through various association responsibilities and committee initiatives. Points of pride include co-chairing the 2015 Conference and Expo, serving as lead adviser to our inaugural Affinity Group Council, and finishing my two-year term as vice president – college, as well as representing NACE in the Student Affairs Racial Justice Day of Action.
Professionally, my aptitude in organizational strategic decision-making has evolved over time, given my experiences at New York University in Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), the University of California (UC) System, and now The Ohio State University. At NYUAD, I was given the unique opportunity to help create an international career services operation, one that was relevant to those in and of the Gulf Region. In the UC System, I reinvigorated once traditional programs, which resulted in increased staffing and an escalation of annual revenues by 60%. At Ohio State, I take great pride in leading a high-impact team that has realized the doubling of permanent resources due to our successes and reputation for high standards in student support.
As a Queer Asian American professional, I feel passionate about NACE’s membership pipeline, which includes representation and systemic support so that all of us, regardless of background, feel a sense of belonging.
