  In an effort to introduce companies to College of Engineering (COE) students at Oregon State University (OSU), especially those served by the COE Center for Diversity & Inclusion, we hold a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) student-company event with some of our region’s largest and most impactful companies. The primary purpose of this event is for industry leaders to share their company’s commitments to DEI, while providing students with important information about potential employers. Each company has six minutes to showcase its DEI policies, support for affinity organizations and/or employee resource groups, mentorship programs, strategies for advancing employees of color, and information on how to apply for internships and permanent positions. Following the presentations, students visit in small groups with the company representatives. Join the presenters to hear how this event engages companies, alumni, and students, while giving insight into future employer needs. This event is open to both career service individuals and employers, and all are welcome to attend.

  Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Create a DEI event that meets student and employer needs;
  • Plan, coordinate, and engage with employers to create a DEI presentation effective for the recruitment of students; and
  • Recognize violations within Title IX and civil rights laws and how these might affect the means in which institutions monitor their recruiting efforts.

  Julie Brandis , Executive Director Strategic Partnerships, Oregon State University - College of Engineering

  As the Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships, Julie is responsible for working collaboratively with the College’s Leadership Team to frame and lead both short and long-term initiatives that help to implement strategic goals of the university through the College of Engineering by engaging external and internal stakeholders as active participants.”  Prior to joining the College of Engineering, as director of corporate relations for the OSU Foundation, Julie fostered enduring relationships with companies whose research, philanthropy, hiring, and well-placed alumni had a positive impact on the university. Prior to joining the OSU Foundation, Julie worked for 17 years as a lobbyist with Associated Oregon Industries.

  

  Sahid Rosado , Dir of Outreach, Recruitment, Diversity, Oregon State University - College of Engineering

  Sahid Rosado Lausell is the director of outreach, recruitment and diversity initiatives in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU). In this role, she focuses on recruiting and retaining a diverse student population in engineering through her leadership of the Center for Diversity & Inclusion. In her time at OSU, she has more than doubled the number of affinity organizations in the College of Engineering; has developed a strategic recruiting plan centered around women, students of color, and other underserved students in engineering; and has increased the college’s involvement in K-12 outreach. She received her M.Ed. (curriculum and instruction) and M.S. (environmental engineering) degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
