Disrupting Career Services: Challenging Cherished Assumptions for Improved Outcomes
Description:
Necessity is the mother of invention or in the case of University of Maryland University College, innovation. Our traditional career services model was ineffective, so we used data to challenge some cherished career services assumptions to best meet the needs of our students and alumni. Do all our students need career services? Is face-to-face advising best? Does the expertise live with us? Are employer information sessions the best use of everyone’s time? We’ll share our experiences and metrics driving our decisions, and challenge participants to examine their own cherished assumptions to see how they may best meet their students’ needs.
