NACE Career Readiness Behaviors – Shift from “What You Know” to “How You Act”
Description:
Did you know students rate lowest in the behaviors tied to the competency employers deem most essential? How do students nationally compare to job candidates in behaviors tied to the eight NACE competencies? Get answers to these questions and more, as Matthew Brink, Assistant Executive Director, Programs & Services, NACE, and Randy Bitting, Head and Co-founder Career Readiness Project at SkillSurvey, share the updated results and findings from over 36,000 student evaluations at more than 10,000+ organizations on the 30 behaviors linked to the NACE Career Readiness competencies. Over the course of the project, NACE teamed up with SkillSurvey and 160+ NACE-member institutions to validate specific, observable behaviors embedded in a proven HR platform developed by I/O Psychologists. This proof-of-concept project resulted in the successful validation of behaviors, marking a significant and essential milepost in advancing evidence-based career readiness initiatives for our profession. During the session, we will: • Review the importance of observable behaviors and how they were mapped to the eight NACE competences • Identify behaviors tied to competencies employers deem “most essential” and compare student proficiency levels based on evaluator ratings, along with how students rate themselves • Explore how participating students compare to the project’s large national sample of other students and 87,000 job candidates rated on the same behaviors • Share how participating institutions leveraged observable behaviors to support students’ competency development and program accreditation
