What is the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)?

Established in 1956, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) is a nonprofit association that links college career services professionals and employers of new college graduates. Its membership includes more than 3,100 colleges and universities and employer organizations nationwide.

NACE is the leading source of information about the employment of college graduates: Throughout the year, the association surveys on data relevant to the employment of new college graduates and publishes related reports, including a quarterly report on starting salary offers and periodic forecasts for the college job market. In addition, NACE publishes a wide variety of professional resources to assist its members in their roles and is the publisher of the Job Choices magazine series, the premier recruitment publication for the college market.

What is the average starting salary for a new college graduate?

According to the April 2013 issue of NACE's Salary Survey, the average starting salary offer to a bachelor's degree candidate from the Class of 201 is $44,928, 5.3 percent higher than the average salary to a 2012 bachelor's degree graduate.  

What are the top personal qualities employers look for in college graduates?

The top 5 personal qualities/skills employers seek, according to NACE's Job Outlook survey, are:

  1. Ability to work in a team
  2. Verbal communication skills
  3. Ability to make decisions and problem solve.
  4. Ability to obtain and process information
  5. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work

What do college students/new grads look for in an employer?

Students responding to NACE's annual student survey said that when looking at a job and employers, they first consider:

  1. Nature of the work
  2. Compensation
  3. Friendly co-workers

However, when they actually weigh a job, they consider opportunity for personal growth, job security, and friendly co-workers.

What kind of benefits does a student/new grad look for?

Students responding to NACE's annual student survey have made it clear that while salaries are important, benefits also matter to them. The top five benefits according to seniors are:

What does the job market look like for the Class of 2013?

Results from NACE's Job Outlook Spring Update survey show that employers expect to hire approximately 2.1 percent more graduates from the Class of 2013 than they hired from the Class of 2012.

How many students will graduate this year?

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) projects 1,791,000 students at the bachelor's degree level will graduate as the college Class of 2013.
