Funding Parameters
Research grants typically average $10,000. Projects made be funded at higher levels depending on the strength of the proposal.
Proposal Format
Proposals should be no more than 10 pages (12 point font; single spaced).
- Title page
Include project name, applicant name, title, organization, address, city, state, and zip, phone, fax, e-mail, and date of submission.
- Project abstract
No more than 300 words
- Statement of the problem
The purposes of the project should be clearly stated and include the key questions to be answered and the key contributions to be made as a result of the successful project completion. A literature review should be provided as appropriate
- Methodology
Applicants should describe how data relevant to the project will be collected. Data collection instruments should be described and, if possible, samples of such instruments provided. Methods for data analysis should be clearly explained.
- Timetable
A timetable should be provided which includes project start and completion dates as well as target dates for providing quarterly reports on the status of activities.
- Budget
Proposals must include a detailed description of how the requested funds will be spent including an expense sheet listing all allowable costs. Allowable costs include, for example, printing, postage, telephone, and stipends for researchers. Unallowable costs include indirect institutional expenses, institutional overhead, permanent equipment, and capital expenditures.
- Qualifications
The qualifications of the applicant and their relevance to the project should be clearly described. Specific project responsibilities should be outlined.
Proposal evaluation criteria
Proposals are evaluated using the following weighted criteria:
- Relevancy of the project to the funding priorities and the potential contribution to the field: 30 percent.
- Clarity of the research purpose and objectives: 25 percent.
- Appropriateness of research design: 20 percent.
- Qualifications of the applicant: 15 percent.
- Appropriateness of requested budget: 10 percent.
Conditions of funding
Researchers whose proposals are accepted for funding are required to sign a letter of agreement to:
- Provide quarterly reports to the NACE Foundation on the agreed upon schedule. Payment will be made on a quarterly basis.
- Submit a final report electronically, based on research results. NACE will hold the copyright to the research project as written. The researcher may use the data for other research projects upon written approval of the NACE Foundation.
- Develop an article based on the research results for consideration for publication in the NACE Journal. Should NACE publish the article, NACE will hold the copyright to it.
- Provide the NACE Foundation with your Social Security number (the IRS requires Form 1099 be provided to recipients of Foundation funds).
- Provide a photograph for publicity purposes and sign a release for its use.
- One-fourth (25 percent) of the total awarded grant will be withheld
until all of the above conditions are met.
