2007 - 2008 NACE Committees
Charges and Responsibilities

Standing Committees

bullet Executive Committee

  1. Ongoing charges as described in NACE Bylaws, Article VII, 7.01.
  2. Review/revise agendas for Board meetings.
  3. Oversee the Strategic Planning process for the coming year.
  4. Provide guidance on international outreach.

bullet Finance and Audit Committee

  1. Ongoing charges as described in NACE Bylaws, Article VII, 7.03.
  2. Review and recommend annual operating and capital budgets.
  3. Recommend to the Board an independent certified public accounting firm to conduct an annual audit of NACE finances.
  4. Review and approve the annual audit; present audit to Board for approval.

bullet Sourcing and Nominating Committee

  1. Source members for available positions on the NACE Board according to the newly approved timeline.

 

Strategic Priority Committees

bullet 2008 NACE Conference Program Review Committee

  1. Select programs for the 2008 conference in New Orleans with a balance in programming for colleges and employers, new and experienced members.
  2. Recommend revisions to the current program sourcing and selection process, including the form and the timeframe, for reviewing program submissions to the Board by December 1, 2007.

bullet Accountability & Outcomes Assessment Committee - College

  1. After doing due diligence and by Dec. 1, report to the NACE Board the feasibility for implementation of an accreditation and/or certification program by NACE for the collegiate career services profession. If feasible and given Board direction, then return by May 1 with a framework for proceeding.
  2. Research the process used by other associations that provide accreditation to member organizations.
  3. Research the process used by other associations that provide certification to individual members.
  4. Devise methods to promote the career services self-study tools among NACE members.
  5. Recommend if NACE should or should not be involved in the external review of career centers, and if so, should NACE provide training for reviewers.
  6. Identify and communicate best practices of current tools for demonstrating value of career services to their campuses into a catalog on the web.
  7. Hold a session at the NACE conference in New Orleans to share findings for all of these topics.

bullet Accountability & Outcomes Assessment Committee - Employer

  1. Deliver a guide with a variety of best practices, including measurable, for effective university relations and recruiting programs, including, but not limited to the following:
    • Organization, resources and leadership
    • Forecasting human capital needs
    • Employment brand
    • Organizational outreach
    • Effective sourcing strategy
    • Knowledge management and compliance
    • Assessment and selection
    • Competitive offer and close
    • Onboarding
    • Outcomes assessment and metric
  2. Deliver a session at the NACE annual conference highlighting this program for university relations and recruiting.
  3. Explore the feasibility of certification for college relations and recruitment professionals.

bullet Compensation Trends Committee

  1. Consult with NACE staff regarding planned changes to Salary Survey based on recent strategic planning and current progress related to changes. Together with staff, review how data is gathered, analyzed, formatted, and reported and identify changes recommended. Topics to address include:
    • Should we be collecting offers or acceptances? Should the information be self-reported?
    • Identify gaps in collected salary/benefits information and identify sources/means to fill those gaps (signing bonuses? Global?)
  2. Review how we can increase participation.
  3. Identify opportunities, if appropriate, to work with others on content collection, analyzing and reporting.

bullet Diversity Advancement Committee

  1. Identify and promote best practices regarding diversity and inclusion within our profession.
  2. Develop and deliver initiatives to build relationships with and HBCU's.
  3. Identify strategies to better serve, recruit and retain students from diverse populations i.e. Women, GLBT, Students with Disabilities, Undocumented Students, etc.).

bullet Education and Training Committee

  1. Research and develop an overall vision for NACE education and training programs (webinars, MLI, Leadership Development Program, new initiatives, etc.).
  2. Research national meeting format/deliverables and recommend changes, if needed, to the existing model that support NACE’s strategic priorities.
  3. Research and recommend, if needed, training programs for employers.

bullet Future Directions Committee

  1. Conduct an environmental scan of crucial content needs for the profession over the next 3-5 years .
  2. Check this against what’s being published, presented and discussed.
  3. Identify gaps and develop an action plan that can address all or part of the gaps in future publications and/or programming.
  4. Discover whether other professional associations are already addressing those gaps with programs, publications, webinars, etc. and determine if there are future collaborative possibilities.

bullet Global Initiatives Committee

  1. Explore the feasibility/desirability for an international visitation program and/or travel learning tour to other countries for NACE college and employer professionals.
  2. Develop a plan to assist NACE members financially to present papers at conferences abroad.
  3. Author a white paper or a journal article on “Internships Abroad: Should Our University Pursue These and How Should We Proceed?” .
  4. Develop a session for the annual conference around this topic.
  5. Explore the desirability/feasibility for NACE to pilot a virtual International Internship Career Fair; report back to the Board with recommendations by Nov. 1.
  6. Explore the feasibility/desirability for a Global Recruitment Conference in 2008 or 2009.

bullet Honors and Recognition Committee

  1. The Board is currently reviewing all awards and honors. These recommendations will be forwarded to the committee no later than October 1, 2007 for the committee to source and recommend this year’s awards and honors to the Board of Directors.
  2. Follow guidelines in NACE Policy and Procedures Manual for sourcing and awarding honors for 2008.

bullet Principles for Professional Conduct Committee

  1. Follow guidelines in NACE Policy and Procedures Manual.

bullet Professional Communities Committee

  1. Identify opportunities and means for constituent groups to gather/create/share content. Ideas could include: developing an on-line community; writing an article for the journal; authoring periodically in Spotlight.
  2. Identify a means for constituent groups to develop networking opportunities with colleagues. Ideas could include a networking forum at the annual conference; scheduled chats, etc.
  3. Possible professional content communities include: Alumni Career Services, Community Colleges, MBA's, Liberal Arts, small colleges, HBCU's, Students with Disabilities, Experiential Education and Hispanics.

bullet Talent Pipeline Committee

  1. Develop and recommend strategies to attract, nurture and retain talent for the profession of career services and recruitment.
  2. Research what is preventing talent from entering our profession.
  3. Explore opportunities to broaden pipeline outside of the traditional ways of sourcing.
  4. Identify sources to assist in talent development.
  5. Create a Journal article or a monograph sharing research and possible solutions to this issue.

bullet NACE Foundation Board

  1. Solicit, review and select proposals that enhance the understanding of career development and employment issues related to the college educated.

General Information About Committee Membership: Standing Committee members are appointed for one-year terms commencing July 1. Committee members may be re-appointed for successive terms. Committee appointments are made by the NACE president-elect.

In addition, Strategic Priority Committees are established to complete a specific, focused, results-oriented charge within a short time frame. Strategic Priority Committee members usually have an area of expertise in the topic area. Strategic Priority Committees for 2008-09 will be identified in Spring 2008 based on particular issues identified by leadership and in support of the NACE strategic plan.
