NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair

Answers to FAQ’S

Employer

How can I register for the NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair?

The NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair opened to employers on Tuesday, January 22. You can register at https://nacelinkvcf-cfm.symplicity.com/events/nacelinkvcf08 or log in at http://asp.symplicity.com/nacelinkvcf/.

Where can I find more information on the NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair?

This pilot effort project is an effort to serve the international student population in the United States, currently struggling to find employment due to visa limitations.

You can read more including the National Association of College and Employer’s position statement on the talent crisis at http://www.naceweb.org/public/NISVCF/default.htm.

Students will begin to register in mid-February and be able to search for jobs until May 16.

Can I send an e-mail to all the registered students?

No. If we get employer interest and feedback during the pilot project, we will enhance future international career fairs to reflect those additional services requested by participants.

Do the applicants’ resumes have to go to the contact listed on the account?

No. When you enter your job information, you can select a specific e-mail address for the resumes to go to. If you have multiple jobs, you can have a different e-mail address on each job listing.

Can I enter a profile of my organization?

Yes. Students will be able to view all the employers that registered for the career fair, and they will be able to read the profiles employers entered for their accounts.

Do I have to register for an account for each country that I want to post jobs for?

No. When you enter a job listing, you select the location(s) of the job. If you have multiple jobs, you can select different locations for each job.

Career Services

Are there marketing tools available for us to download to post around campus?

All NACE college members will receive, via e-mail, information to use with their students including: e-mail templates, logos for your web site, and the link to register for the fair.

Is there a fee to the university to participate in the NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair?

International student participation in the NISVCF is available at no cost to all NACE-member schools.

Do you expect more U.S. or internationally based jobs to be posted?

As this is a pilot program, we do not have benchmarking data available on the geographic regions of the postings. However, outreach is being done to U.S. employers with international and national operations, and to global employers through various international partners of NACE.

In terms of international students, which nationalities are most heavily represented within the U.S. university system?

You can find information about this from Open Door Online at http://www.opendoors.iienetwork.org/file_depot/0-10000000/0-10000/3390/folder/58653/Fast+Facts+2007+Final.pdf.

I want to pick up the NISVCF logo for my web site. Why do I go to a log in page when I paste the URL from the e-mail about the logo into my browser?

The NISVCF is a members-only benefit, so only members are allowed to display the logo. We’ve put the logo in a password protected area to ensure that only members can download it. You must login using your NACEWeb user name and password, and then you will be able to view the logo page.

Can our students participate in the career fair, we are a NACE member school but do not use the recruiting software (NACElink/Symplicity).

Absolutely, any international students currently attending NACE-member colleges and universities can participate in the fair.

Is there a way for counselors to view the fair so they can help the students?

The system is user friendly and there is embedded help. We anticipate that there will not be much customer service needed by staff individual career centers. While you can’t go in to the “manager side” of the software, you can see a list of employers at http://www.naceweb.org/infocenter/careersvc/NISVCF/companies.htm.

Can I set up a student account so I can view the student module? That way I will be in a better position to work with the students and their questions.

If you do this, please create a login that identifies this as a counselor account.  Once in the system you can upload a dummy resume and look at all the jobs. You will be able to see everything a student might. Please don't apply to any job. Prior to creating a test account, please allow your students access to the fair first and gauge if creating a dummy account is a necessary step. The NACE committee must approve every student account, employer account, and job, and is attempting to maximize the return on the work effort.

Do I have to put the link on my web site; or can I just give the students the URL to register for the fair?

Yes you can send students directly to the URL (there is a suggested e-mail message here).  Tell them to then select “Candidate Registration” and follow instructions!

Will the students have access to a user manual when they login?

The system is user friendly and there is embedded help. Students will receive an e-mail after their registrations are approved.  The e-mail explains how to update their profile, change their password, upload their resume, and how to search for jobs.

How can I learn more about the fair?

You can access a variety of information about the fair at http://www.naceweb.org/public/NISVCF/international_opportunities.htm. There is additional information if you click on the link that says, “The NISVCF is now open to international students. Click here.”

You can view the registered employers, pick up an e-mail template to tell your international students about the fair, register to download the logo, and more.

Can our online students who live abroad participate?

If the students are being educated by a NACE member college or university, they are eligible to participate.

If I have feedback that I would like to provide to the NACE Global Initiatives Committee relative to this pilot fair, who should I contact?

You can contact Jennifer Rutt at jrutt@naceweb.org. She is the NACE staff liaison to the NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair subcommittee and will be sure your feedback is reviewed by the committee for use in refining the service.

Student

May U.S. students who want to work abroad also participate?

At this time, we must limit participation to U.S.-educated, international students. The NACE International Student Virtual Career Fair (NISVCF) was created in response to trends in the United States that are making it difficult for international students to become employed and remain in the United States.

Please note that the fair is only for students who are not citizens or authorized to work in the United States, or who are considered "international." We may explore including U.S. students interested in working abroad in the future.

Is the fair open to international students studying and/or graduating from Canadian universities?

Yes—international students attending NACE-member institutions in Canada and other locations can participate. We will review the delivery and inclusion of many different groups in the future.

Is there a way for a student to see a list of employers that will be participating in the fair?

Once the fair opens on February 18, your career center will have a list of participating employers.

Who can participate in this career fair?

The NACE International Virtual Career Fair will be open to students and alumni of NACE-member institutions. The information on how to register and search for jobs will be provided to students and alumni through their campus career centers.

Also, jobs that will be available, typically, will return graduates to their home countries.
