What is the impact of the recruiter on a job candidate’s view of the organization?

As the “face” of the organization, the recruiter influences students’ perceptions about the organization and the individual student’s potential place in it. Recruiters who foster a sense of belonging are especially impactful.

Results of NACE’s 2023 Student Survey show that:

  • After speaking with a recruiter, more than 61% of graduating seniors said they could see themselves working for the organization.
  • At the same time, 64% said the recruiters they spoke with took an interest in them as an individual, and 60% said the recruiters affirmed that they had something to contribute to the organization.

This is no mean feat considering there are approximately only seven full-time recruiters on average to represent the organization’s college hiring needs, according to NACE’s current recruiting benchmarks.

Men (68%) were much more likely than women (59%) to say they could see themselves working for the organization after talking with a recruiter, but recruiters scored slightly higher among women (61%) than men (60%) when it came to affirming the potential hire’s ability to contribute to the organization.

NACE’s 2023 Student Survey Report was conducted March 15 – May 19, 2023. A total of 18,966 bachelor’s degree level students took part, including 2,307 Class of 2023 graduating seniors. NACE’s 2023 Recruiting Benchmarks Report was conducted April 12 – May 19, 2023. Thirty percent of NACE employer members (269 organizations) took part along with 65 nonmember companies.
