Mary Gatta, Director of Research and Public Policy, NACE

Mary Gatta, Ph.D., is the director of research and policy at the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), where she leads research on the employment of the college educated, and forecasts hiring and trends in the job market; tracks starting salaries, recruiting and hiring practices, and student attitudes and outcomes; and identifies best practices and benchmarks. She has more than 20 years of teaching, research, and advocacy experience working on issues of career education and workforce development in colleges and nonprofit associations. Prior to joining NACE, Dr. Gatta served as an associate professor of sociology at City University of New York-Guttman and faculty director of the Ethnographies of Work program. In addition, she was the research director at the Rutgers University Center for Women and Work and a senior scholar at Wider Opportunities for Women in Washington D.C. She has written numerous books, articles, and policy papers on education and work. Dr. Gatta also served on NJ Governor Phil Murphy's Labor and Workforce Development Transition Team. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from Providence College and a master’s degree and doctorate in sociology from Rutgers University.

Katie Donovan, Director, Career Services, Tufts University - School of Medicine

Katie Donovan has been the director of career services for Tufts University School of Medicine Graduate Programs since 2019. Her team supports a growing student body and academic programs in public health, biomedical sciences, physician assistants, and physical therapy. Donovan brings to her role 10 years of serving hundreds of employers across sectors and industries from small to Fortune 500 while working as an applicant tracking systems account manager, staffing firm sales manager, and professional trade association director; counseling individuals, creating and conducting workshops on securing and negotiating jobs, and career management since 2011; and pay equity policy expertise on salary history bans and pay transparency in job postings as originator and co-author of the first bill in the U.S. She has conducted numerous workshops at a variety of organizations, including Harvard, Virginia Tech, UCLA, NASDAQ, Cisco, and Hallmark, and has 100+ media interviews and contributions across print, radio, television, podcasts, and social media, including NPR, Yahoo Finance, BBC, Hollywood Reporter, Forbes, Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the NACE Journal. Donovan has served in leadership and board positions for Mass Equal Pay Coalition, 2020 Women on Boards, the Massachusetts Branch of AAUW, and Mass NOW. Kelli Smith, Assistant Vice President for Student Success, Binghamton University - SUNY

Kelli K. Smith serves as the assistant vice president for student success at Binghamton University, following the role as the founding director of the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development. In addition to leading some divisional and campus-wide initiatives in collaboration with academic affairs, her portfolio includes oversight of the Fleishman Center, Center for Civic Engagement, and Student Transition and Success, which she created with existing resources to better serve Binghamton students. She remains involved internationally in the field of career services, recently served on the NACE Board of Directors, and has conducted numerous presentations and published in the field, including serving as editor for two Wiley New Directions books related to career services. She is adjunct faculty in both the School of Management and the Student Affairs master's program.
