The State of Pay: Insights into Compensation for Career Services Professionals

Mary Gatta, Director of Research and Public Policy, NACE

Mary Gatta, Ph.D., is the director of research and policy at the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), where she leads research on the employment of the college educated, and forecasts hiring and trends in the job market; tracks starting salaries, recruiting and hiring practices, and student attitudes and outcomes; and identifies best practices and benchmarks. She has more than 20 years of teaching, research, and advocacy experience working on issues of career education and workforce development in colleges and nonprofit associations. Prior to joining NACE, Dr. Gatta served as an associate professor of sociology at City University of New York-Guttman and faculty director of the Ethnographies of Work program. In addition, she was the research director at the Rutgers University Center for Women and Work and a senior scholar at Wider Opportunities for Women in Washington D.C. She has written numerous books, articles, and policy papers on education and work. Dr. Gatta also served on NJ Governor Phil Murphy's Labor and Workforce Development Transition Team. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from Providence College and a master’s degree and doctorate in sociology from Rutgers University.

Raymond Rogers, Director of Career Services, Texas State University

Ray has worked in career services for more than 25 years with direct experience in internship development, career advising, employer relations, career center administration, and development of career course curriculum. Ray is a past president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SoACE) as well as the Florida Association of Colleges and Employers (Florida ACE). He currently serves on the leadership team of NASPA’s Student Career Development Knowledge Community and co-chaired the annual conference committee for NACE in Philadelphia this past June. Ray currently serves as director of career services at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, with previous appointments career center director at St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX and at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.

Joshua Kahn, Associate Director of Research and Public Policy, NACE

Joshua Kahn, Ph.D., is the associate director of research and public policy at the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). He earned his doctorate in educational leadership with an emphasis on quantitative research methods from the University of Oregon in 2018. His interests include using a wide-range of measurement and assessment techniques, strengthening systems and routines to enhance outcomes, and weaving together multiple sources of data to make informed decisions. At NACE, Dr. Kahn helps run the research department by developing and administering surveys, analyzing data, and disseminating results to the membership and the press.
