  • Summary

In response to the growing national shortage in the nursing workforce and the academic challenges many incoming students face, the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh developed the Pre-Nursing Pathway Program (PNPP)—a proactive, weeklong residential initiative designed to support and retain aspiring nurses before they even begin their first semester. This webinar offers an in-depth look at the PNPP’s structure, goals, and measurable impact.

Participants will explore how the program was designed to address gaps in academic readiness—particularly in science and math—while also fostering a sense of belonging and confidence among first-year pre-nursing students. Through immersive lab experiences, mentorship from current nursing students, and holistic support from faculty and staff, the PNPP helps students build a strong foundation for success in a demanding academic path.

Attendees will also learn about the collaborative efforts between academic departments, student services, and the College of Nursing that made the program possible.
