Exploring Privilege and Bias

  • Fee: FREE (member); FREE (nonmember);

Summary

Although progress has been made through policy and legislation to remove barriers affecting workplace equality for specific populations, there is still more that needs to be done on the individual level. This session will explore how privilege and bias affect progress in the workplace for individuals in a negative and positive way. Define what privilege and bias are and examine how bias and privilege can hinder progress. In addition, we will discuss how these factors can be used to benefit yourself and those around you.

Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Explore how some privileges and biases make it difficult to understand or even be aware of challenges and obstacles that others face;
  • Identify personal privileges and biases to learn how it impacts those around you; and
  • Advocate for others in the workplace.
