Summary
Attend this informational session intended to bring awareness of and encourage wider participation in the Fulbright Scholar opportunities specifically available to career services professionals, senior administrators, and community college administrators.

How many times have you made presentations or held discussions encouraging your students to build career competencies by studying abroad or engaging with global perspectives? But, what about YOU? Hear from two Fulbright Scholar alumni ambassadors about the Fulbright International Education Administrator (IEA) program and the effects their IEA awards had on their personal and professional development as well as their campuses and students. They hope to motivate you to get off of your campus and out into the world to experience the transformational power of a Fulbright.

Learn from German IEA Fulbright alumna Leigh Lassiter-Counts and Russian IEA Fulbright alumna Suzanne LaVenture about their IEA program experiences in-country, the impact and changes at their campuses inspired by their Fulbright participation, and how you can apply for these amazing opportunities. The Fulbright Germany IEA specifically requests career services professionals apply, and the Fulbright Russia IEA is specifically for community college administrators.

Fulbright is the U.S. government’s flagship international education and cultural exchange program and is currently celebrating its 75^th year. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program awards more than 800 U.S. scholars and administrators annually. Over 400 types of opportunities are available to teach, research and conduct professional projects in more than 135 countries. Because diversity is one of our country’s most defining characteristics, Fulbright is committed to ensure cohorts of scholars and institutions represent the breadth and diversity of the United States. Participants may think a Fulbright is out of reach for them, or only for students, faculty, or big-name, powerhouse institutions, but this is not the case. Fulbright is for YOU! Fulbright seeks to represent all levels of higher education, institutions of all sizes and types, and the wide range of folks who work and learn on a college campus. In particular, Fulbright encourages applicants from HBCUs and Tribal Colleges, small Liberal Arts Colleges, Community Colleges, and rural institutions.

Following this program, you will be able to:
- Grasp that Fulbright opportunities are available to staff and administrators across higher education, not just Ph.D. faculty and students;
- Understand more about the Fulbright Scholar programs specifically for career services, community college, and senior administrators/professionals across all types and sizes of American higher education institutions; and
- Gain insight and inspiration to bring international career and academic opportunities to your students, faculty, and campus.
Presenters

Leigh Lassiter-Counts, Director of Career Services, Hendrix College
Leigh Lassiter-Counts serves as the director of career services at Hendrix College and is on the national planning team for the NACE Career Competencies Symposium to help bring career readiness into the classroom curriculum. She traveled to Germany in 2016 for the Fulbright Germany International Education Administrator program and is currently serving as one of 14 Fulbright U.S. Scholar alumni smbassadors. Her life’s work is to inspire compassionate, caring students to live productive and joyful lives that can change the world!

Suzanne LaVenture, Director of Int'l Education, Davidson-Davie Community College
Suzanne LaVenture is the director of international education at Davidson-Davie Community College. She is the host adviser for international students and scholars on J-1 visas. LaVenture also manages short-term study abroad programs and coordinates the Scholars of Global Distinction program. She serves on the SIO Council of CCID (Community Colleges for International Development) and is currently serving as a Fulbright Scholar alumni ambassador. She has an M.A. in Spanish literature at the University of Illinois.
