Summary

For the first time ever, NACE has conducted research to gain a snapshot of the state of our profession in light of our times—how professionals are viewing careers and work satisfaction, and how emotional well-being has been impacted. Over the past few years, professionals across industries have been navigating changing economic times, the impacts of a public health crisis, and the changing nature of work and workplaces. We have all heard of the Great Resignation and "quiet quitting" of workers, and have seen many workplaces shift modalities. Join us for an informative town hall where we will share our findings on the state of our profession and also discuss the impact these recent shifts have on our future.

Shawn VanDerziel, President & Chief Executive Officer, NACE
As president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Shawn VanDerziel leads the association of 18,000 college career services professionals, university relations and recruiting professionals, and business solution providers that serve the community. As a leading voice on the employment of the college educated and advocate for equitable outcomes for all students, VanDerziel is featured regularly as an industry expert and is a sought-after speaker on a range of topics, including internships, hiring, career readiness, and trends in the workforce and college job market. Prior to joining the NACE staff, VanDerziel was with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for 23 years, where he most recently served as chief human resources officer and as chief of staff. His earlier roles included corporate recruiting with Norrell Corporation and a position in higher education as associate director of student enrollment at National Louis University.

Brian Guerrero, Associate Vice President C2 Hub (Interim), Metropolitan State University of Denver - C2Hub
Dr. Brian Guerrero serves as President of the 2022-23 NACE Board of Directors. Dr. Guerrero is chief of staff in the Office of the Provost at Ohio State University. Previously, he was assistant dean for Ohio State’s Center for Career and Professional Success. Dr. Guerrero also served as senior associate director of the career center at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as deputy director of student affairs administration at UCLA. Outside of his roles within the University of California system, Dr. Guerrero worked in various career services at New York University (NYU), at both the New York City campus and in Abu Dhabi.

Deborah Carr, Professor, Boston University
Deborah Carr is a professor of sociology and director of the Center for Innovation in Social Science at Boston University. She previously held faculty positions at Rutgers University, University of Michigan, and University of Wisconsin. Dr. Carr has written widely on stress and health, with more than 120 articles and chapters, and several books including Worried Sick: How Stress Hurts us and How to Bounce Back. Her work is regularly featured in the media including CNN, New York Times, and more. She also is the author of the blog Bouncing Back: Overcoming stress and surviving life’s challenges, for Psychology Today.

Ingrid Giordano, Director, Citi
Ingrid Giordano is director of university relations, campus diversity, and campus marketing for Citi. She collaborates across the firm on key initiatives, including graduate recruitment at multiple colleges and universities, early engagement, campus diversity partnerships, talent attraction, and program management for early career programs. Giordano works with a team that manages efforts at all levels of the college experience, developing bespoke programming and experiences for students. She began with Citi in the late 1990s; previous roles there include program manager, recruiting manager, entry training head, and learning and development relationship manager. Prior to joining Citi, she served as a client manager at Johnson & Higgins and as an instruction manager at Prudential Securities. Her with NACE includes serving as co-chair on the 2019-20 and 2020-21 People of Color Affinity Impact Team and as a member of the 2019-2020 Inclusion, Equity, and Affinity Committee. She also contributed as a panel member during the 2020 NACE Connect virtual experience and as a mentor for the NACE Mentor Program. Ingrid is on the 2022-2023 NACE Board of Directors. She holds a bachelor's of business administration from Pace University.
