Spotlight for Recruiting Professionals

In response to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic, employers are most commonly holding hybrid internship programs this summer, according to preliminary results of NACE’s August 2021 quick poll on internships and fall 2021 recruiting.

Half of quick poll respondents to date have held or are holding a hybrid internship program, which is a mix of in-person and virtual internships. Of those that are holding either virtual or in-person internships exclusively, nearly two-thirds are using the former format.

Responding employers also cite the effectiveness of their internship programs in converting interns to full-time hires, as a branding tool, and in completing meaningful work for the organization.

NACE is polling employers and career services professionals on their plans for fall 2021 in light of the pandemic and greater opportunity to return to in-person interactions. The polls address plans for serving, engaging with, and recruiting college students for jobs and internships, but also capture what happened with employer internship programs held in summer 2021. The polls run July 27 through August 20, 2021, and results are offered in real time.
